I’ve been at social events and randomly brought up Irish lizards. Completely out of the blue. Highly recommend it. One moment, we’re talking about humanity sawing the branch it sits on with AI technology, the next moment: Irish lizards. The weather as a topic is a perfect segue:

“The weather’s been unreal!”
“True, the lizards are loving it.”
“Lizards?! Where?”
“Out in West Cork of course. They’re everywhere.”
“Really?”
“Yes, let me tell you… blah blah… [reckless babble about their conservation status]”

But I don’t blame people for never noticing them as they’re well camouflaged in the grass.
