Another geological heritage tour of Cork city done and dusted!

Showing Cork city's geology off to the public
Heritage Week in Cork remains a blast and great fun!
To see that people are so keen on learning about geology and the natural environment in the city of Cork is so uplifting – especially in these times of widespread apathy.
Leading 25 people through the vehicular carnage of Cork for two and a half kilometres, participants got to learn about the local geology through seeing the rocks, playing with some plastic toys and strenuously hiking up Patrick’s Hill!
In turn, I got to learn from participants who were knowledgeable about Cork’s economic and architectural history. Finally, a city tour is never complete without talking about mass extinctions and ecological collapse.
Honestly, I wish I could offer the tour during other parts of the year. Maybe down the line.
Once again thanks to Cork City Council’s Heritage Office, helpful volunteers and the Heritage Week-organisers for a brilliant opening day!
